Set For The Fall return today with their eagerly awaited new album, I Said What I Said, available everywhere now via their new partnership with Vere Music, the innovative Nashville-based marketing and label services enterprise with global distribution from Warner Music Group’s independent distribution arm, ADA.
The North Carolina-based hard rock band’s third studio LP and first full-length release in over seven years, I Said What I Said includes the album-opening mission statement, “Product of Pressure (feat. TJ Harris of Decyfer Down),” available everywhere now. Produced by Andrew Baylis (Jelly Roll, Madball, Brantley Gilbert), the previously released original version of the track has now been amplified with additional vocals from Harris – a longtime friend of the band and frontman for GRAMMY® Award-nominated rock band Decyfer Down – as well as newly remixed by Set For The Fall’s own drummer Dylan McLain.
“We kind of looked at each other after we first recorded ‘Product of Pressure’ and said, if we’re going to do this, we’ve got to do things completely different,” says guitarist Donovan Roybal. “If we’re going to take this seriously, we’ve got to take it seriously. From that moment we were all 100% gung ho. It was a huge mind shift.”
“Product of Pressure” is “the story of us trying to put our stamp on the rock scene,” says guitarist Harrison Muffley (who also plays guitar in Decyfer Down). “We weren’t there for a while, but now we’re back. It’s like how a diamond is created – you get beat down and then hopefully you can turn that pain into something beautiful. That’s the story of Set For The Fall. Even our name, it’s all about being prepared for the worst. You’re going to fall, that’s life. It’s about how you get back up after that.
“Dylan did a new mix for the album and it sounds 50 times better than it did before. It’s insane, the amount of punch he put into it, it’s like night and day difference on how much better it is. And we added TJ’s vocals on it, it’s slamming.”
Set For The Fall – Joey Lassiter (vocals), Harrison Muffley (guitar), Donovan Roybal (guitar) and Dylan McLain (drums) – have earned ecstatic praise for their inspirational and intense sonic assault, with heavily cranked guitars, full-bore vocals, and towering melodies that straddle the divide between pure metal and mainstream hard rock icons like Creed, Staind, Seether, and Sevendust. “A lot of sucky things have happened to us,” says Roybal, “but sucky things happen to everybody. It’s not like we’re talking about weird niche stuff, the emotions are universal.”
“Sometimes stuff happens to you that you can’t control,” says Muffley. “The only thing you can control is your own mind and your own faith and your own resolve. Even though I’ve been through all this stuff, even though my mom died, even though my best friend stabbed me in the back, even though we don’t play as many shows as we’d like because we’re busy with our families and such, the shows we do play and the music we’re making is better than anything we’ve done before. Maybe the four of us can’t really control what happens, but we can have a say in it.”
