God’s Here – the 2024 family drama about faith, forgiveness, and new beginnings – is among the leading nominees for the 13th annual International Christian Film and Music Awards.
Written and directed by Bill McAdams, Jr., God’s Here is nominated in six categories, including best picture (for executive producers Sharon K. Campbell and Jim Doss, and producers Don Wantz, Jr., Mary Jean Bentley, and Therese Moncrief) and best director (McAdams).
The film also landed nominations for lead actor (Hercules legend Kevin Sorbo), supporting actress (recording artist and songwriter Sarah Elizabeth Reeves), cinematography (Jeff Barklage and Ron Gonzalez), and musical score (Reeves).
The full list of nominees was announced on Thursday, February 20. The awards will be presented at the International Christian Film & Music Festival (ICFF) in Orlando, April 30-May 3.
Inspired by a true story, God’s Here follows Jack Gilmore (McAdams, Jr.), a decorated firefighter and man of deep faith whose wife and son are killed in a texting-and-driving crash three weeks before Christmas. In the wake of his loss, Jack is charged with a DUI and required to complete community service, during which he meets a young girl with whom he shares a conflicted and painful past. Meanwhile, as Detective Kent Powers (Sorbo) investigates the fatal accident, he uncovers a shocking revelation that personally ties him to the case.
“This is a story I have been wanting to tell for a while, and I am so humbled by the festival’s recognition. Receiving acknowledgement like this only furthers the permission we give ourselves to be vulnerable and prioritize God in every endeavor,” said McAdams, whose brother was killed in a distracted driving accident in 2012. “And thank you to the entire cast for agreeing to help me bring it to life. This film is nothing without them.”
Notably, this year marks the second time McAdams has had a film nominated for best picture at the ICFF. His gripping drama Gallows Road starring Kevin Sorbo and Ernie Hudson took home the award in 2015.
God’s Here premiered on Saturday, November 2, 2024 in Granbury, Texas – the small, historic town just west of Dallas-Fort Worth that served as the movie’s backdrop. It is currently available for streaming on multiple digital platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, DirecTV, Fandango at Home, YouTube, Google TV, and DISH, among others.
Established in 2011, ICFF is the largest Christian film festival in the world and offers a vibrant platform for creators to showcase their faith-based and family-oriented films, documentaries, and music. The festival’s mission has been twofold from the very outset: to both uplift and educate Christian filmmakers and artists worldwide. Submissions are considered by 10 judges, five film industry executives, and five casual audience viewers.
“This year, we have seen an incredible lineup of films, music, and talent that uplift, inspire, and share messages of faith, hope, and love,” the ICFF posted on Instagram after the nominations were announced. “From powerful cinematic storytelling to soul-stirring music, our nominees represent the very best in Christian faith-driven entertainment.”
