Centricity Music’s Rachel Purcell Talks Finding Her True Calling in Christian Music

In an inspiring conversation with Christian Music Now’s Doug Griffin, he talked with Centricity Music’s newest recording artist, Rachel Purcell, to discuss her incredible journey from small-town Alabama to the heart of Christian music. Growing up near the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Rachel never imagined she would one day follow in the footsteps of iconic musicians who recorded there. Yet, through an unexpected series of events, she found herself stepping into a professional music career—first in country music and now fully embracing her faith in Christian music.

During the interview, Rachel reflects on her early years, from singing in her church choir to discovering a love for songwriting as a teenager. Though she had a natural talent and passion for music, she never considered it more than a hobby. It wasn’t until college at the University of North Alabama that she encountered God in a deeply personal way, transforming both her faith and her approach to music. Doug and Rachel discuss how those formative years shaped her perspective and ultimately led her to start writing and performing her own songs.

As her time with the country label came to a close, Rachel felt God calling her in a new direction. She began writing songs about her faith, and for the first time in years, the lyrics flowed effortlessly. Doug and Rachel dive into this pivotal shift, where she started creating music that felt truly authentic to her journey. This transition ultimately led her to Centricity Music, where she found a home for her soulful, gospel-infused sound and a team that fully embraced her creative vision.

Her debut Christian single, ‘Show Up’, encapsulates the heart of this new chapter. Rachel describes the song as a personal anthem, inspired by God’s faithfulness in her life. Co-written with Trannie Anderson and Jeff Pardo, the track blends her Muscle Shoals roots with modern Christian pop, offering a message of hope and reliance on God’s presence in everyday struggles. She tells Doug that, in many ways, the song was written as much for herself as it was for her listeners, serving as a reminder that God always meets us where we are.
